The Professional Development Unit or PDUS is for the academic and teaching staff, research staff and the doctoral and early career researchers. The PDU offers course-based learning, watching other staff members perform their duties is called shadowing, and individual instruction with the option of taking the eLearning course.
WIT has a Strategic Plan and a University Strategic Plan for the staff. The PDU helps the staff to learn the abilities of how to become more effective in their role, reach their goals professionally and personally.

The Wessex Institute has an annual conference all over the world. People attend Alicante and Valencia, Spain, Crete, Greece, New Forest, UK, Siena, Italy and Penang, Malaysia in 2016.
