In a closed event to employees of RBS Group, Eduardo Sirotsky Melzer took office on the afternoon of a Tuesday, as new CEO in place of Nelson Sirotsky. The ceremony, which included a presentation of the violinist Yamandú Costa, who sang the National Anthem, and actress Fernanda Montenegro, took place in BarraShoppingSul Convention Center, in Porto Alegre. About 450 people attended the event, which was directed by Flavia Moraes.
With the change, from now on, Nelson Sirotsky will be dedicated exclusively as a chairman of the group’s board of directors and also the editorial board of RBS Group businesses. The process of succession has already been prepared for two years and the announcement of the name of the new president was made.
Duda Melzer, at 40, will lead a group wich now has 6,400 employees in 83 business units in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and the Federal District. He entered the RBS Group in 2004 as general manager of the domestic market in São Paulo. In 2010, he became executive vice president. Grandson of the founder of RBS, Maurício Sirotsky Sobrinho, he was prepared to take such a position. Graduated in Business Administration from PUC-RS, an MBA from Harvard University (USA). In the United States, he worked at Delphi Corporation and was director of the Box Top Media, the New York company.
Duda plans to increase the relevance of the group, investing in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, creating new journalism platforms, entertainment and service. Other areas, such as digital and education, are also getting RBS investments. According to Duda in the second half, RBS will open a company based in São Paulo, to gather digital business group, as well as an office in California.
